Kenya – Kenyan authorities have announced that the death toll from the landslide that struck Nyerere County in the southwest of the country has risen to 26. Twenty-five people remain missing as search and rescue operations continue.
According to official reports, landslides triggered by heavy rains in recent days have destroyed dozens of homes. In addition, the landslides swept away roads and farmland, hindering rescue efforts in some affected areas.
The Kenyan government confirmed that emergency teams are working around the clock, assisted by the army and local volunteers, to find the missing. Urgent aid is also being provided to those affected, and temporary shelters have been set up for families who lost their homes.
Kenya has been experiencing severe weather for weeks, leading to frequent floods and landslides. This has caused widespread loss of life and property, with warnings that the adverse weather conditions will continue in the coming days.
