Baghdad, Iraq – The Popular Mobilization Forces intelligence announced the arrest of a spy network consisting of four Syrian nationals in Diwaniyah province, southern Iraq. They are suspected of having ties to Israel.
Security sources said the operation was carried out inside a rented residence. Maps and photographs of sensitive security sites in Diwaniyah and Najaf were seized, suggesting possible intelligence activity.
The four detainees are from the Syrian province of Suwaida, including Milad Lawrence Abu Fakhr, the alleged leader of the network.
The arrests come as part of Iraq’s efforts to combat foreign intelligence activities, amid warnings of regional tensions with Israel. Meanwhile, local Syrian sources described the charges as fabricated, claiming the detainees were migrant workers.
