Tel Aviv, Israel – Israeli police and the Shin Bet security service announced today that they have filed an indictment against Yosef Ein-Aili, a resident of Tiberias, who was arrested about a month ago on suspicion of contacting Iranian intelligence officials.
The investigation revealed that Ain Aili, 23, had been in contact with Iranian officials since the end of 2024. He carried out specific security tasks under their supervision in exchange for money, according to a police statement.
Security duties in hotels
Israeli police alleged that Ein Eili, exploiting his work at a hotel in the Dead Sea area, transferred information and photos about hotels in the area to his Iranian handlers.
The statement also indicated that the accused “did not perform any additional tasks required of him,” which included gathering information about the Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben-Gvir; establishing an “active team” inside Israel; throwing a hand grenade at a house; transferring data on Israeli army soldiers; and photographing military bases.
Background of cyber threats
The revelation of this case comes at a time of growing concerns about security and cyber breaches. Iran’s “Cyber Support Front” had previously published the identities and video recordings of employees of the Israeli military company “Maya,” as well as data on everyone who dealt with the Israeli Ministry of Defense.
