Doha, Qatar – Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, affirmed that his country is making intensive efforts to restore communication channels between the United States and Iran.
In an attempt to revive stalled talks on regional and nuclear issues.
Al Thani said in press statements that Qatar is seeking direct communication with Washington and Tehran.
This is with the aim of ensuring that negotiations return to “the right track”.
He noted that dialogue is the best way to avoid escalation in the Gulf region and maintain regional stability.
Collective security interest
The Qatar Prime Minister added that his country believes that holding new talks
between the United States and Iran could lead to a better agreement for all.
He explained that “Doha is focused on bringing the two sides closer together
in order to achieve the interest of collective security in the region.”
These statements come at a time when the Iranian issue is experiencing a diplomatic stalemate.
This comes after the latest nuclear negotiations stalled.
Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East due to the situations in the Gulf, Gaza and Iraq.
In recent years, Qatar has played an active mediating role in a number of sensitive issues,
including negotiations between Washington and the Taliban.
The prisoner exchange between the United States and Iran strengthened
its position as a reliable channel of communication between the opposing parties.
Comprehensive and sustainable agreement
Al Thani affirmed that his country will continue its diplomatic efforts
in coordination with international partners to reduce tension in the region.
He added that “Gulf security can only be achieved through dialogue,
not through confrontation or sanctions.”
Qatar wants to leverage its mutual trust with both the American and Iranian sides.
