China – Chinese authorities renewed their yellow alert today—the third-highest level in the national warning system—in preparation for Typhoon Fengshen, which continues to advance toward the country’s southern and eastern coasts. The typhoon is packing strong winds and heavy rains that could cause flooding and landslides.

The China Meteorological Administration stated that the typhoon is expected to hit Fujian, Guangdong, and Zhejiang in the coming hours. This came amid calls for residents to avoid unnecessary travel and take urgent preventive measures to protect lives and property.

Authorities have also closed ports and schools in some coastal cities. Ferry and air traffic have also been suspended in several areas most at risk. Rescue teams remain on full alert in anticipation of any emergency.

Typhoon Fengshen is one of the strongest typhoons to hit the region this season. There are fears that the damage could worsen if strong winds and heavy rains continue in the coming days.
