Tehran, Iran – The Iranian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday criticized Trump’s call for dialogue.
Washington was also accused of engaging in “hostile and criminal behavior” against Tehran.
This came after US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that his country was ready to conclude an agreement with Iran.
“Invalid and irresponsible”
In addition, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs considered, in a statement published on its website, that the statements made by the US President before the Israeli Knesset were “false and irresponsible”.
She believed that “the United States, as the largest supporter of the Israeli regime linked to genocide crimes, has no moral legitimacy to accuse others”.
Trump called on Iran to make a radical change in its foreign policy.
“Nothing would be better for the region than for Iran to abandon terrorists and stop threatening its neighbors,” he said. Furthermore, he suggested Iran should stop funding its armed proxies and recognize Israel’s right to exist. He made these remarks during his speech before the Israeli Knesset on Monday.
Trump also addressed Tehran, saying, “The hand of friendship and cooperation is outstretched.”
Lifting sanctions.. “With conditions”
Later, during his visit to Egypt, the US President confirmed that he would lift sanctions on Tehran if it expressed its willingness to negotiate.
He said confidently that an agreement with Iran would eventually be reached, because the Iranian leadership wanted it.
He also considered that “the United States and Israel are not enemies of the Iranian people,” saying, “We just want to live in peace.”
It is noteworthy that last June, the United States joined Israel in bombing Iranian nuclear facilities.
This comes after five rounds of indirect talks with Tehran, which stalled over issues such as uranium enrichment.
Western countries accuse Iran of seeking to possess nuclear weapons.
This is denied by the Iranian authorities, who assert that its nuclear program is intended for civilian purposes only.
