Kyiv, Ukraine – Kyiv was heavily attacked by drones and missiles early Sunday.

In what independent observers described as one of the largest Russian attacks on the Ukrainian capital and the surrounding area since the start of the war.

Drones flew over the city, and air defense fire rang out throughout the night and continued until the morning.

In addition, a number of injuries were reported, while some residents took shelter in underground metro stations.

Some areas across the country were on alert for airstrikes.

While Poland closed airspace near two of its cities in the southeast of the country, its air force deployed aircraft to monitor the airspace.

For his part, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sibiga said that Russia fired “hundreds of drones and missiles” at Ukraine on Saturday night.

“Russia launched a new intensive air attack on Ukrainian cities while residents were sleeping,” Sebega wrote on the X platform. Once again, hundreds of drones and missiles destroyed residential buildings and caused civilian casualties.

Activating alarms in Kiev

Earlier, it activated alarms in Kiev to warn of an air strike.

The local military administration said that Russia was attacking with drones and missiles.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the Ukrainian capital was under “massive” attack and asked residents to remain in shelters.

“The injured were taken to hospital for treatment,” Klitschko wrote on Telegram.

For his part, the governor of the Zaporizhia region in the southeast of the country said that Russian strikes targeted it and resulted in the injury of at least four people.

“Once again, residential buildings and infrastructure are being targeted,” said Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian presidential office. Once again, it is a war against civilians.

“There will be a response, but Western economic strikes on Russia must also be stronger,” he added.

For its part, Polish forces reported on the X platform that they had deployed fighters in their airspace and placed ground-based air defense systems on high alert in response to Russian strikes in Ukraine.

She explained that these measures are precautionary and aim to secure Polish airspace and protect citizens, especially in areas neighboring Ukraine.
