Copenhagen, Denmark – Denmark announced on Friday that it had accepted a Swedish offer to supply it with anti-drone systems.
This comes ahead of a European Union summit scheduled for next week in Copenhagen.
This came after mysterious drones were spotted flying over Danish airports.
The Danish Ministry of Defense stated, in a post on the “X” platform: “Sweden offered Denmark to provide it with military anti-drone capabilities, and Denmark naturally accepted this offer”.
Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said on Friday that he had spoken to his Danish counterpart, Mette Frederiksen, and made the offer to her.
“We have seen intense drone activity in different countries over the past few days,” Kristersson said in an interview with Swedish TV4. “Totally unwanted drones.”
He added: “Next Wednesday, about 40 prime ministers will meet to attend the European Union summit in Copenhagen”.
It is noteworthy that Sweden has invested heavily in air defense systems recently.
Swedish Defense Minister Pal Johnson said: “In the past few months, we have requested air defense systems capable of combating drones and aircraft worth more than 10 billion kroner ($1.06 billion), and we are investing in new anti-drone capabilities”.
