BEIJING, China – Chinese President Xi Jinping declared that his country is “unstoppable.” This was in a speech he delivered in Beijing. It took place at the beginning of a huge military parade marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
“The renaissance of the Chinese nation is unstoppable, and the noble cause of peace and development for humanity will inevitably triumph,” Jinping said in a televised speech.
“Today, humanity once again faces a choice between peace or war, dialogue or confrontation,” he added.
The Chinese President called on countries around the world to “eliminate the root cause of the war and prevent the recurrence of historical tragedies”.
“Common security can only be guaranteed when the countries of the world treat each other equally, live in harmony, and support each other,” he said.
The huge military parade was launched in the presence of more than 20 heads of state. Among them are especially Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.
The Chinese President arrived, accompanied by his guests, at the historic Tiananmen Gate to watch the military parade today. It took place on Wednesday, in the Chinese capital.
Red Carpet for Guests
Xi shook hands with guests one by one on the red carpet. Before they climbed onto the viewing platform at the top of the gate overlooking Tiananmen Square.
Putin and Kim walked alongside Xi as they headed to the podium. Meanwhile, other attendees applauded warmly as they headed to their seats.
The three leaders stopped to shake hands with five World War II veterans. Some of whom were over 100 years old.
The military parade marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. It showcases modern missiles, fighters, and other forms of military power. This happens at a time when China seeks to strengthen its influence on the global stage.
