Kyiv, Ukraine – Despite ongoing efforts to bring peace, Russia launched attacks with a number of combat drones. They also fired several missiles towards Ukrainian cities.

Authorities in Kiev said that Russia attacked Ukraine overnight with 614 missiles and drones.

The Ukrainian Air Force said Russian forces fired 574 drones and 40 missiles. In this attack, at least one person was killed.

He added that his units shot down 546 drones and 31 missiles.

The head of the regional administration of Kiev-controlled areas in Zaporozhye province also announced damage to industrial infrastructure facilities.

According to the RBC Yukrin news agency, explosions were heard in Kiev and in the city of Lviv in western Ukraine.

The agency quoted the region’s military governor, Maxim Kozitsky. He said that air defense systems had been activated in the region.

An air alert was issued in Kiev on Wednesday evening, while drone attacks continued throughout the night.

The agency noted that air defense systems were also active within the city.

Residents were asked to remain in shelters, according to the Kiev military administration.

In principle, no accurate information was available about the victims or the extent of the damage.

In contrast, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced that air defense systems destroyed 49 Ukrainian drones last night.

American efforts to bring peace

These mutual attacks come at a time when US President Donald Trump is leading new efforts to find a solution to the war in Ukraine.

In this context, Trump hosted a series of meetings over the past few days.

Meetings began on Friday in Alaska with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Then, on Monday, they continued in Washington with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and a number of European leaders.

Trump is currently trying to arrange a meeting between Putin and Zelensky. He is also raising the possibility of holding a tripartite summit between him and the Russian and Ukrainian presidents.

In addition, the Ukrainian government announced yesterday, Wednesday, that it is working on developing a security concept for the period following the end of the war with Russia.

The head of the Ukrainian Presidential Office, Andriy Yermak, said: “Our teams, led by the army, have already begun active work on the military component of security guarantees”.

He added: “We are also preparing a plan for the necessary measures if Russia continues to prolong the war and thwart agreements related to leaders’ meetings”.

Yermak explained that he held consultations with the national security advisors of Germany, Italy, France, Britain, Finland, the European Union and NATO, after his return from Washington.

“Ukraine is ready for any dialogue format for a just end to the war,” Yermak said.

“The Russians must either take the necessary steps, or face additional, truly painful pressure from the world,” he continued.

He added that Ukraine had agreed with its partners to “coordinate positions on a daily basis.”
