Moscow, Russia – The Russian Federal Security Service said on Tuesday that a terrorist operation in the Moscow region, planned by a Ukrainian intelligence agent, had been thwarted.

The agency explained that the terrorist operation aimed to assassinate a high-ranking Russian military officer.

The Russian Federal Security Service announced the arrest of an intelligence agent in Ukraine who was planning to assassinate the Russian officer.

He pointed out that the operation was to be carried out using a car loaded with up to 60 kilograms of explosives.

The Russian Federal Security Service said in a statement that the agency arrested a person “who was preparing for a terrorist act in the Moscow region.. During operational and investigative activities, the identity of a Ukrainian special services agent named Raven, recruited in a third country, was identified.

According to the statement, the person, on instructions from the organizer, made a homemade explosive device and hid it in a car purchased with money provided by the enemy.

The Russian Federal Security Service explained: “The car, loaded with more than 60 kilograms of explosives, was then scheduled to be stopped in a place designated by the enemy, and detonated when a high-ranking military officer from the Russian Ministry of Defense passed near it”.

The Russian Federal Security Service arrested the person “on his way to the scene of the planned crime, and during interrogation he admitted to cooperating with hostile intelligence services, during which he was offered the opportunity to return to his country of origin and avoid joining Ukrainian forces in exchange for committing a terrorist act”.

The Investigation Department of the Russian Federal Security Service in the Rostov region opened criminal cases against the criminal, including a case related to high treason, illegal manufacture and transfer of explosives, and other cases.
