Cairo, Egypt – Actor Mohamed Imam resumes filming the movie “Shams El-Zanati 2” this weekend following a hiatus, as he prepares to shoot the remaining scenes and move the project into post-production.
Events preceding the original film
The film is set prior to the events of *Shams Al-Zanati*—starring Adel Emam and released in 1991—taking the story back some 15 years to reveal the origins of the “Shams Al-Zanati” squad in a fresh take inspired by the famous original.
The film features an all-star cast, most notably Mohamed Imam, Hannah El Zahed, Yasmin Raeis, Bassem Samra, Mohamed Tharwat, Mahmoud Abdel-Moghny, Khaled Anwar, Ahmed Khaled Saleh, and Ahmed Abdel-Hamid. It is written by Mohamed El-Dabbah and directed by Ahmed Khaled Moussa, marking a new cinematic collaboration between the director and Mohamed Imam.
The Success of “Saqr and Canaria”
The resumption of filming for *Shams Al-Zanati 2* coincides with the box-office success of Mohamed Imam’s film *Saqr wa Canaria*, which has drawn large audiences since its release. The film centers on Saqr, a professional mercenary who decides to abandon his perilous lifestyle and turn over a new leaf; however, his plans shift when he meets Bilal—known as “Canaria”—a failed writer obsessed with the world of espionage and covert operations, sparking a series of adventures and unexpected situations.
