Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian performing artist Soheir Zaki passed away today after a long battle with illness. This brings to a close a long and illustrious career.

During her lifetime, she presented numerous performances and works that left a clear mark on the world of art and entertainment in Egypt.
Key milestones in her career
The late Soheir Zaki was born on January 4, 1945, and began her artistic career early,
making her debut as a dancer on the television program “Adwaa El Masrah” (Stage Lights).
She then rose to become one of the most famous belly dancers of the 1970s and 80s,
enjoying widespread popularity both in Egypt and abroad.
Souheir Zaki performed numerous dance numbers at important events,
including the weddings of the sons of the late President Gamal Abdel Nasser.
She also performed for several world leaders, most notably Richard Nixon and Habib Bourguiba.
This reflects her high artistic standing during that period.
Her relationship with Umm Kulthum
The late actress was famous for performing dances to the songs of the legendary Umm Kulthum, which initially drew the latter’s skepticism.
However, after seeing her performance, the relationship transformed into admiration.
She thus earned special praise for her unique style of performing belly dancing to classical Arabic songs.
Suheir Zaki retired from acting in 1983 after her participation in the film “Inna Rabbak La Bal-Murassad” (Indeed, Your Lord is Ever Watchful).
She also participated in a number of artistic and theatrical productions,
including the Ramadan riddles shows “Wahawi Ya Wahawi” and “Thulathi Adwaa Al-Masrah” (The Three Lights of the Stage).
In addition, she appeared in several prominent films, such as “Al-Hasnaa Wal-Talaba” (The Beauty and the Students),
“Matloub Zawja Fawran” (Wanted: A Wife Immediately), and “Ana Wa Huwa Wa Hiya” (Me, Him, and Her).
These and other works further solidified her artistic presence.
