China – A Chinese medical team successfully saved a toddler who had swallowed a gold nugget while practicing tongue exercises at home. The incident has raised concerns among parents about the dangers of toys and small objects that children can swallow.
Local media reported that the child was hospitalized in critical condition after swallowing the gold coin. It caused a partial obstruction of his stomach and esophagus before doctors were able to remove it in a delicate procedure with complete success and no serious complications.
Doctors explained that such incidents are “relatively common among young children,” emphasizing the importance of close supervision. They also stressed the need to avoid leaving small metal objects or swallowable toys within children’s reach.
What began as a “childish curiosity game” turned into a lesson for parents about home safety. They emphasized that vigilance and constant checking can prevent accidents that could be fatal in some cases.
