Sharjah, UAE – The Sharjah Ports, Customs and Free Zone Authority announced a new measure exempting trucks carrying goods from the Sultanate of Oman within the logistics corridor from toll gate fees within the Emirate of Sharjah. This was done in cooperation with the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority. The decision comes as part of efforts to develop the logistics corridor system linking the ports and border crossings of the Emirate of Sharjah with the Sultanate of Oman. This enhances the efficiency of supply chains and improves the flow of goods across the UAE.
Facilitating truck passage through border crossings
The exemption applies to trucks arriving through the Khatmat Malaha and Al Madam border crossings, provided their shipments meet the initiative’s requirements and are registered on approved routes. This will reduce operational burdens on companies and clients and enhance the efficiency of the transport and logistics sector. The authority emphasized that the initiative is based on advanced infrastructure and a strategic geographic location that facilitates the rapid movement of shipments between the two countries. This is particularly relevant given the proximity of the Khatmat Malaha crossing to Oman’s Sohar port and its connection to major road networks serving the UAE’s ports, free zones, and industrial areas.
Enhancing the resilience of supply chains
The General Administration of Customs and Ports Security at the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security explained that this step is part of a proactive approach focused on enhancing operational readiness and the sustainability of supply chains. This is achieved through developing practical solutions that ensure the smooth flow of trade between the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman. It added that UAE Customs continues to coordinate with strategic partners to develop an integrated system of services and facilities. These facilities support the resilience of global trade and strengthen the UAE’s position as a regional and international logistics hub.
Reduce costs and speed up transit
Authorities confirmed that the new facilitation offers significant operational advantages for companies operating in the transport, trade, and logistics sectors. This is achieved by reducing costs associated with truck movement, expediting transit times, and improving operational efficiency. This measure is part of a broader package of initiatives to develop the logistics corridor. These initiatives also include accelerating customs procedures and completing clearance processes directly at border crossings, thereby supporting the competitiveness of the transport and logistics sector in the UAE.
