Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The United Arab Emirates strongly condemned the riots and attacks targeting its embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus. It affirmed its categorical rejection of any attempt to harm diplomatic missions or attack national symbols.
In an official statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the riots, attempted vandalism, and attacks targeting its embassy and the residence of the head of mission in Damascus. It emphasized its complete rejection of these acts of sabotage and affirmed that insulting national symbols is unacceptable under any circumstances.
The Ministry affirmed that what occurred constitutes a blatant violation of international norms and laws, particularly the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. This convention guarantees the full inviolability of diplomatic premises and their personnel. It also holds the host state responsible for their protection and ensuring their safety.
The gravity of the incident is compounded by the circulation of footage showing the participation of several security personnel in the attacks. This raises serious questions about the responsibility of the Syrian authorities and places a direct responsibility on them to guarantee the safety of diplomatic missions. It also necessitates an immediate and transparent investigation and the prosecution of all those involved without exception.
The United Arab Emirates called on the Syrian Arab Republic to fulfill its obligations to secure the embassy and its staff, and to conduct an immediate investigation into the circumstances of these attacks. It also demanded that all necessary legal measures be taken to ensure that such attacks do not recur and that those responsible are held accountable.
The UAE statement reflects a firm tone and a clear political message: targeting diplomatic missions or failing to protect them constitutes a serious transgression that cannot be tolerated. Furthermore, it necessitates a firm stance in accordance with international law and diplomatic norms.
