Abu Dhabi, UAE – The UAE Presidential Court announced that the crescent moon of Shawwal was not sighted on Wednesday evening. Therefore, Thursday, March 19, 2026, will be the 30th and final day of Ramadan. Friday, March 20, will be the first day of Eid al-Fitr in the UAE.
Crescent Sighting Committee Decision
The announcement was based on a report submitted by the Shawwal Crescent Sighting Committee, formed by the UAE Fatwa Council, following its meeting in Abu Dhabi. The committee confirmed that the crescent moon was not sighted after reviewing reports and results of searches across the country.
Determining the beginning of the month of Shawwal
Based on the results of the investigation, it was determined that Friday, March 20, 2026, will be the first day of Shawwal for the year 1447 AH. It will also be the first day of Eid al-Fitr, as announced by the relevant official authorities.
