Tuscany, Italy – Mexican del Toro, rider of the Emirates-XRG team, regained the lead in the overall standings of the Tirreno-Adriatico race in Italy.
This came after a strong offensive performance in the fifth stage.
He finished second in this stage, returning to the top of the overall standings of the race only two stages before the conclusion.
Del Toro had topped the overall standings in the second stage, but was unable to maintain this lead in the third and fourth stages.

The fifth stage, which extended 184 kilometers from Marotta-Mondolfo to Mombaruccio, witnessed one of the most difficult stages of the race to date.
It involved nearly four thousand metres of climbing through the hills of the Italian Marche region, with a continuous series of steep climbs.
For his part, Danish Michael Valgren, cyclist of the EF Education–Easy Post team, succeeded in winning the stage title.
