Abu Dhabi, UAE – His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, issued a decree reconstituting the Board of Trustees of the National Human Rights Commission, chaired by His Excellency Dr. Salem Suhail Saeed Al Neyadi. This reflects the UAE’s ongoing commitment to developing its human rights system and enhancing its performance in accordance with the highest international standards.
The council includes in its membership a select group of experts and officials, namely: Dr. Fatima Khalifa Al Kaabi, Maryam Mohammed Al Ahmadi, Engineer Nasser Ahmed Mohammed Al Rashdi, Ali Salem Al Qishi Al Shehhi, Hamad Salem Kardous Al Ameri, Dr. Yousef Abdul Ghaffar Al Sharif, Ahmed Suleiman Ahmed Al Hammadi, Fadila Abdullah Mohammed Al Muaini, Moza Salem Abdullah Al Shumi, Dr. Amina Abdullah Al Majid, and Fatima Mohammed Yousef Al Jassim.
The resolution stipulates that the Council shall elect a Vice-President from among its members to act in the President’s absence. The term of membership is set at four years, commencing from the date of the resolution’s enactment, in accordance with the provisions of Federal Law No. 12 of 2021 concerning the regulation of the National Human Rights Commission. This new structure aims to enhance the Council’s capacity to monitor its strategic plans and oversee human rights programs. Furthermore, it ensures the implementation of the Commission’s decisions in line with the state’s vision for supporting human rights and establishing justice and equality.
This decision is effective from the date of its issuance, and all relevant authorities are required to implement it within their respective jurisdictions. It will be published in the Official Gazette. This step becomes part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its human rights institutions and promote good governance in this vital sector. This formation also comes within the framework of the state’s continuous efforts to develop national institutions and enhance their efficiency. In doing so, it contributes to supporting human rights and strengthening the UAE’s position regionally and internationally as a leading country in protecting rights and preserving freedoms.
