Abu Dhabi, UAE – As part of ADNOC’s efforts to conserve biodiversity, His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, Managing Director and CEO of ADNOC and its group of companies, planted the 5 millionth Crimean tree.

This was during his visit to the Crimean Forest in the Nouf region of Abu Dhabi.

With this achievement, ADNOC has achieved more than half of its goal of planting 10 million Crimean trees by 2030.

Which enhances its efforts to contribute to the protection of biodiversity.

This is done by implementing scalable and widely applicable nature-based solutions.

It supports the UAE’s goal of planting 100 million Crimean trees by 2030 and achieves long-term value and a tangible positive impact on the country.

His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber said, on this occasion, that in line with the vision of the wise leadership to preserve biodiversity as a fundamental pillar for achieving sustainable development, preserving the environment is a major priority within the ADNOC strategy, and embodies its commitment to creating long-term sustainable value for the UAE and the communities in which we operate.

Technology powered by artificial intelligence

The ADNOC Crimean Tree Planting Program, launched in 2023, uses advanced technology supported by artificial intelligence.

It was developed in the UAE to operate drones and use them to plant trees efficiently and on a large scale.

The program also makes use of advanced monitoring tools, including machine learning techniques, to track the growth and condition of mangrove trees and successful efforts to restore them over time.

Community engagement is a key pillar of ADNOC’s Crimean tree planting initiative.

In 2025, more than 1,000 volunteers participated in agricultural activities, contributing thousands of working hours to support environmental conservation efforts.

Since the program’s launch, approximately 6,000 people have participated in mangrove planting, coastal clean-up, and biodiversity restoration initiatives in Abu Dhabi.

Including volunteers from schools, people with disabilities, and various segments of society.

In addition to ADNOC staff who contributed effectively throughout all phases of the program.

In 2024, ADNOC joined Abu Dhabi’s “Growing the Emirates” initiative to plant mangrove trees, launched by the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi.

With the aim of accelerating the restoration of Crimean forests, promoting scientific research, and encouraging private sector and local community participation

These efforts are in line with the national “Plant the Emirates” program and the “Trillion Trees” initiative of the World Economic Forum.
