Dubai, UAE – Dubai is preparing to host the 23rd edition of the IBA World Boxing Championships, “UAE 2025.” The tournament is organized by the International Boxing Association (IBA). This championship is historic, boasting an unprecedented prize purse of US$8 million.
The tournament officially kicks off tomorrow evening, Tuesday, with a grand opening ceremony at the Dubai Duty Free Stadium in Al Garhoud. The ceremony coincides with the UAE’s 54th National Day celebrations.
Standard awards and comprehensive support
The International Boxing Association described the tournament as a “world-class boxing festival.” The two-week event features elite boxers vying for the title and top prizes.
Prizes: The first-place winner in each of the 13 weight categories receives $300,000. Second place receives $150,000, third place $75,000, and fifth place $10,000.
The prizes are distributed according to specific percentages, with 50% going to the boxer, 25% to the coaches, and 25% to the national federation.
Russian Omar Kremlev, president of the International Boxing Association (AIBA), emphasized that the tournament aims to support all aspects of the sport. He stated, “Dubai will be the world boxing capital in December. Our goal is to protect boxers, provide them with opportunities, and enhance the sport’s standing.”
Tournament schedule
The opening ceremony will be preceded by a technical meeting for federations and players, followed by the draw for the main weight categories.
Qualifying bouts will take place from December 3 to 11. The finals will be held on December 13, coinciding with the IBA Congress 2025 meetings in Dubai.
This event embodies an appreciation of the UAE’s growing role in developing the sport of boxing and enhancing its global standing since the tournament’s inception in 1974.
