Abu Dhabi, UAE – Anwar Gargash, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the United Arab Emirates, said that Sudan does not allow the UAE to perform its humanitarian role as it does in Gaza. He affirmed his country’s readiness to expand its humanitarian efforts in Sudan whenever possible.

During his participation in the Reuters Next Gulf Summit held in Abu Dhabi, Gargash stressed that Sudan’s future must be based on a civilian transition, not military rule. He called for an immediate ceasefire in the country, which has been suffering from a devastating war since April 2023.

Sudan is getting more complicated

Gargash explained that the situation in Sudan is becoming increasingly complex and requires urgent international action to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people. He noted that the UAE views the Sudanese issue from a purely humanitarian perspective and believes that the solution can only be political and peaceful.

Regarding the situation in the Gaza Strip, Gargash emphasized that much more needs to be done on the humanitarian front. He explained that the UAE is intensifying its relief efforts and has provided unprecedented aid that has helped alleviate the suffering of the population during the war.

The Palestinian issue

Regarding the Palestinian issue, Gargash stressed that extremist positions on it are no longer valid at the current stage. He called for ensuring Israel’s security in parallel with the establishment of a viable, independent Palestinian state. He added that the UAE continues to call for resolving conflicts in the region through peaceful means, while adhering to the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to establish their independent state.

Gargash stated that continuing to adopt extremist positions, whether by the Israeli right or others, is no longer beneficial. He emphasized that the Israeli right must realize that the Palestinian issue will not disappear. He also considered any attempt to annex Palestinian territories a red line for the UAE, noting that the peace agreement between the UAE and Israel played a pivotal role in halting the annexation plan.

Gargash noted that the UAE had pledged to downgrade its relations with Israel if Benjamin Netanyahu’s government annexed parts of the occupied West Bank. This contributed to preventing the move, which was supported by some far-right forces within Israel.

Gargash concluded his remarks by emphasizing that the region needs a balanced vision that guarantees security for all. This vision is based on dialogue and diplomacy rather than conflict and confrontation. He emphasized that true peace begins with recognizing the rights of peoples and achieving justice and stability.
