SHANGHAI, China – The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, participated in the Green Shipping Corridors Forum held in Shanghai, People’s Republic of China.
Which is a global platform for enhancing international cooperation in the green shipping sector.
This was attended by a group of ministers, officials, and maritime industry leaders from around the world.
Engineer Hessa Al Malik, Advisor to the Minister for Maritime Transport Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, delivered the UAE speech during the forum
In it, she stressed the depth of strategic relations between the UAE and the People’s Republic of China.
She pointed out that the volume of non-oil trade between the two countries exceeded 90 billion US dollars in 2024.
With both sides looking to double this number by 2030 in light of growing cooperation in all fields, especially energy and logistics.
She explained that the UAE is the largest incubator for Chinese businesses in the Arab world.
It hosts more than 16,500 commercial licenses owned by Chinese investors.
It is China’s largest trading partner in the region in the field of non-oil goods.
Chinese products are re-exported through UAE ports to more than 400 cities in the Middle East and North Africa.
Al Malik pointed out that the shift towards a more sustainable shipping industry has become an inevitable necessity.
She stressed that the UAE’s approach is based on practical and thoughtful steps by creating appropriate incentives and legislative environment to support this global transformation.
She reviewed the UAE’s experience in hosting the event parallel to World Maritime Day 2025, which was held under the slogan “Our Ocean… Our Commitment… Our Opportunity.”
She explained that the event achieved great success by discussing pivotal issues such as decarbonizing the marine sector, reducing plastic pollution, protecting marine biodiversity, and building capacities.
She stressed that its outputs will have a broad regional and international impact in supporting the green shipping path.
She noted that the future will belong to countries that cooperate to achieve common goals.
It also called for unifying international efforts to advance the transition towards a green marine sector that contributes to the prosperity of economies and enhances the sustainability of marine communities around the world.
