Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – In a new achievement, the first globally in the agriculture and food security sector and the first at the government level in the UAE, which supports the country’s leadership regionally and globally, and enhances its experience in developing and adopting best international practices and standards, the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority has obtained the International Accreditation Certificate (ISO 42001:2023) for artificial intelligence management systems.

The International Accreditation Certificate covers areas of harnessing advanced artificial intelligence technologies, such as intelligent analytics and machine learning algorithms, to enhance the efficiency of agricultural operations and food security services provided by the Authority to society, which reflects its commitment to applying the highest international standards in managing artificial intelligence technologies responsibly and effectively, in support of the goals of digital transformation and sustainable development.

His Excellency Omar Sultan Al Ulama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy and Remote Work Applications, stressed that the UAE, under the directives of the wise leadership, continues its pioneering role in developing and adopting global standards for responsible artificial intelligence, which consolidates its distinguished position at the forefront of global countries in the fields of adopting artificial intelligence and the latest smart technologies in various sectors, including agriculture and food security.

His Excellency said that the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority’s international accreditation represents a new achievement in addition to the UAE’s achievements and its qualitative initiatives based on adopting artificial intelligence solutions as a strategic tool to enhance the efficiency of priority sectors. He appreciated the Authority’s contribution to enhancing digital transformation and ensuring food security, which reflects the vision of the wise leadership in building a sustainable and innovative future.

For his part, His Excellency Dr. Tariq Al Ameri, Acting Director General of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, confirmed that achieving this achievement came thanks to the support of the wise leadership and the efforts of the specialized work team and supporting bodies.

He explained that this achievement is in line with Abu Dhabi’s vision and the UAE’s Artificial Intelligence Strategy 2031, and supports the Authority’s role in achieving agricultural sustainability, food security, and digital transformation through artificial intelligence solutions.

In this regard, the Authority affirms its commitment to continuing excellence and innovation to serve society and achieve leadership directives in consolidating food security and enhancing the country’s leadership in artificial intelligence, while continuing to use advanced technologies to achieve the goals of digital transformation, sustainability and food security for future generations.

The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority’s obtaining of the International Accreditation Certificate (ISO 42001:2023) represents a prominent step in its journey towards adopting global best practices, which enhances community confidence in its work system and confirms its position as a leading government body to be emulated locally, regionally and globally.

It is noteworthy that since 2020, the UAE has been participating in the UAE Group of Artificial Intelligence Experts at the International Organization for Standardization (ISO IEC JTC SC 41/1) to develop unified frameworks and standards for this technology worldwide.

The group includes a group of national and international experts, researchers, and academics from governmental, private, and academic institutions in the country.
