Dubai, United Arab Emirates – Dubai Electricity and Water Authority achieved a growth in its profits by 13.2% during the first half of 2025. These profits reached 2.9 billion dirhams. Meanwhile, its revenues rose to 14.6 billion dirhams, marking a growth of 6.9%.
Total profits before calculating interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization of debt “before deductions” amounted to 7 billion dirhams. Operating profits recorded 3.7 billion dirhams.
His Excellency Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, Vice Chairman and Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, expressed his pride in the Authority achieving the strongest quarterly and semi-annual financial results in its history. He noted that these results reflect the continuous growth in demand. They also highlight the efficiency of implementation and the operational excellence pursued by the Authority.
His Excellency pointed out that the Authority’s Board of Directors approved the distribution of profits worth 3.1 billion dirhams for the first half of 2025. These profits are to be disbursed in October 2025. He also noted that the Authority has so far invested more than 230 billion dirhams in infrastructure development. This is part of its keenness on sustainability, enhancing the flexibility of the business model, and achieving strong returns.
He said: “We look forward to continuing to achieve added value for the various stakeholders. This will be done by building on Dubai’s economic growth, the strength of our business model, and the outstanding operational results that place the Authority at the forefront of the sector globally.”
The second quarter of 2025
In the second quarter of 2025, the Authority recorded an increase in total energy production, including energy from independent producer projects. It reached a record level of 16.9 terawatt hours. This marks an increase of 10.88% compared to 15.3 terawatt hours in the second quarter of 2024.
The Authority produced 3.30 terawatt hours of clean energy during this quarter. This represents 19.46% of the total energy produced in the second quarter of 2025.
The Authority affirms its commitment to using clean energy to maintain a sustainable mix of generation sources. This is to meet ever-increasing demand.
The Authority also produced 2.18 terawatt hours from the Hassian power plant. Furthermore, 11.46 terawatt hours came from other production plants during the second quarter of 2025.
The authority recorded a 2.95% increase in peak energy demand compared to the second quarter of 2024, reaching 10,545 gigawatts.
Total desalinated water production during the second quarter of 2025 also increased by 9.55% compared to the previous year. It reached a record level of 40.78 billion gallons.
Peak daily demand for desalinated water reached 475 million gallons, an increase of 5.87% over the same period last year.
By the end of the second quarter of 2025, the number of customer accounts reached 1,292,487. This represents a 4.81% increase in the number of customer accounts compared to the same period last year.
During the second quarter, two 132 kV plants and 483 11 kV plants were operated. The total electricity production capacity reached 17,979 GW, of which 3,860 GW came from renewable energy sources.
