Dubai, UAE – Emirates International Aluminum Company announced the completion of its acquisition of an 80% stake in the Italian aluminum recycling company, Eco Green.
In April, Emirates International Aluminum announced its intention to acquire a majority stake in Eco Green. The transaction was completed after obtaining all regulatory approvals and required completion conditions.
Emirates Global Aluminium is accelerating the growth of its global aluminium recycling business. To contribute to meeting the growing global demand for low-carbon aluminum.
Following the completion of the acquisition of EcoGreen, Emirates Global Aluminium’s recycled aluminum production capacity exceeds 400,000 tons annually in the UAE, the United States, Germany, and Italy. In addition to more than 200,000 tons annually of additional production capacity currently being developed.
According to analyses, recycled aluminum is expected to contribute to meeting about half of global aluminum demand by 2040. Europe, excluding Russia, is the third largest market for recycled aluminum globally, after the United States and China.
A major supplier to Europe
Emirates International Aluminum Company is a major supplier of primary aluminum to Europe. It sells about 600,000 tons of primary aluminum annually to European industries.
Eco Green was founded by the Scapini family in 1993, and the family still owns minority stakes in it. Its members hold management positions, and the company’s name will be changed to EGA Eco Green.
Eco Green has two factories in northeastern Italy, specializing in aluminum scrap, sorting, casting, and slag processing. The company distributes 70,000 tons annually.
The company’s factory in Villafranca di Verona collects, sorts, and distributes approximately 23,000 tons of aluminum scrap annually.
Some of the scrap, after sorting, is supplied to a nearby Eco Green facility in Nogara de Verona, which produces more than 20,000 tons of secondary aluminum annually.
The plant includes furnaces with a nominal production capacity of 30,000 tons per year, in addition to facilities for processing aluminum slag.
The company is expanding the facility to add 20,000 tons of recycled aluminum annually to its production capacity. The expansion work is expected to be completed in December 2026.
