Highlights
  • Inflation considerations and geographical and climatic factors
  • Unprecedented record levels in neighboring Netherlands

Berlin, Germany – The price of E10 gasoline in Germany has reached an unprecedented record high, driven by renewed tensions between the United States and Iran, according to the German Press Agency (dpa), citing the German Automobile Club (ADAC). The average price of E10 gasoline in Germany has risen to €2.21 per liter. This surpasses the previous record of €2.20 per liter set in March 2022.

Inflation considerations and geographical and climatic factors

The agency notes that this record high is calculated based on the nominal price, as prices were higher in previous periods when inflation was taken into account, particularly in 2012. Furthermore, the geopolitical situation in the Middle East is contributing to the rise in gasoline prices. In addition, the ongoing drought is playing a significant role, as the low water levels in major rivers have disrupted the transport of petroleum products via waterways. As a result, suppliers have been forced to resort to road transport or pay higher tariffs to transport fuel by river.

Unprecedented record levels in neighboring Netherlands

In a similar development, neighboring Netherlands has recorded new record highs in fuel prices. Media reports indicate that the price of a liter of gasoline at major service stations has reached €2.66. This is the highest level ever recorded in the country, coinciding with economic pressures stemming from regional crises. Current supply levels in European markets are also having an impact.
