Washington, DC – CNN reported that US forces conducted a large-scale operation to secure shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, escorting approximately 40 commercial vessels carrying roughly 18 million barrels of oil as they transited the strategic waterway. The operation came amid escalating military tensions with Iran and growing concerns about the safety of commercial ships passing through the strait, a vital chokepoint for global energy supplies.

According to information the network cited from US officials, US forces participated in protecting the ships and countering air and sea threats during the transit, including drones and anti-ship missiles. These actions underscore Washington’s commitment to ensuring the continued flow of oil through the Strait of Hormuz, particularly given concerns that any prolonged disruption to shipping could lead to higher energy prices and increased pressure on global markets.

The Gulf region holds immense strategic importance for the oil market. The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial waterway for exports from several of the region’s largest energy-producing nations. Observers believe that the increased US military escort of commercial vessels reflects a heightened level of security risks in the strait. It also underscores that protecting energy supply lines has become a central component of US military operations in the region.
