Baghdad, Iraq – Sources at Dana Gas reported that the liquefied gas storage tanks at Iraq’s Khor Mor field have been temporarily emptied for safety reasons. There are no current plans to resume production at this time.
This measure comes as a precautionary step to ensure the safety of workers and facilities, amid close monitoring by the company of operational conditions in the field.
According to Reuters, a source familiar with the matter stated that the unloading was the result of a comprehensive risk assessment. The source emphasized that the operation did not indicate any technical malfunction or security incident at the facility, but rather was part of Dana Gas’s routine occupational safety procedures across all its operations.
He added that engineering teams are continuing to monitor pressure and temperature levels in the tanks. This ensures the situation remains stable before any decision is made regarding production.
The Khor Mor field is one of Iraq’s most important natural gas sources. It is operated by Dana Gas in partnership with local and international companies. The field is part of Iraq’s strategy to boost gas production and meet growing domestic energy demand, particularly given the increasing industrial and electricity consumption in the country.
Despite the temporary emptying of the tanks, the company confirmed that all procedures are in line with international safety standards. This includes contingency plans and monitoring of critical equipment. The goal is to avoid any impact on the stability of future supplies. The source indicated that the company will announce any updates regarding the resumption of production as soon as the appropriate decision is made.
Observers are closely monitoring the situation at Khor Moor. They consider the temporary production halt a necessary step to ensure industrial safety and environmental protection. This reflects Dana Gas’s commitment to operational safety and adherence to international standards. This is being achieved without impacting long-term supply continuity.
