Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, participated in the third meeting of the G20 Energy Sector Transformation Working Group “G20 ETWG”, which was held in the Republic of South Africa.

The participation comes within the framework of the UAE’s global efforts to support the energy transition, implement the outcomes of the “Historic UAE Agreement” issued by the COP28 Conference of the Parties, and strengthen the country’s commitment to achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

During the meetings, the Ministry reviewed the UAE’s most prominent achievements in accelerating the transformation of the energy sector, enhancing energy efficiency, and developing a balanced mix of clean and safe sources, which contributes to ensuring energy security and achieving sustainable development.

She also participated in the joint side session between the Ministerial Clean Energy Initiative “CEM” and the International Atomic Energy Agency, under the title “Nuclear Energy for Africa”, where the UAE’s pioneering experience in developing a peaceful and safe nuclear energy program was highlighted, as a model to be emulated in supporting developing countries and enabling just transformation paths in the energy sector.

In the energy efficiency session, the Ministry highlighted national initiatives and legislation aimed at doubling rates of improving energy efficiency, in line with the goals of the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance launched by the UAE.

Emphasizing its commitment to advancing global efforts towards a more sustainable future, the UAE launched the Global Energy Efficiency Alliance, with the aim of accelerating the pace of adopting energy efficiency solutions at the international level, by exchanging best practices, enhancing cooperation between the government and private sectors, and supporting countries in developing effective policies and legislation to improve consumption efficiency.
