Moscow, Russia – Russian media revealed the number of Ukrainian military personnel killed and missing during the years of fighting.

This was done by a Russian hacking group that allegedly managed to obtain sensitive Ukrainian documents.

The Russian hacking group KillNet announced that it had hacked the data of the Ukrainian General Staff.

It also confirmed that it had obtained “sensitive documents” proving the killing and loss of more than 1.7 million Ukrainian soldiers since the start of the Russian operation.

The Novosti news agency quoted a source in the group as saying that the hack took place via the computer of the head of the logistics department at the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense.

The documents were found stored in OneDrive cloud resources.

The published documents included photos of the dead, their personal identities, military ID cards, death certificates, identification codes, and their families’ phone numbers.

The source also confirmed that the group obtained documents from the Special Operations Forces Command and the Ukrainian Central Intelligence Directorate, including detailed lists of countries granting military aid, the types of weapons transferred to Ukraine, and detailed timetables for their transfer during the conflict period.

Millions dead and wounded

The source indicated that Kiev forces lost more than 1.7 million Ukrainian soldiers over the course of 3 years:

118.5 thousand in 2022.

405.4 thousand in 2023.

595 thousand in 2024.

621 thousand in 2025.

Novosti pointed out that this breakthrough is the largest of its kind since the start of the Russian military operation in Ukraine.

It also reveals the extent of human losses that the Ukrainian authorities have not announced.
