Washington, DC – In a notable shift reflecting Washington’s desire to reshape the humanitarian landscape in Gaza, the US administration has increased its direct involvement in aid deliveries to the Strip. Conversely, Israel’s role has diminished to a secondary one, more akin to that of an observer than an active partner.
According to US reports, Washington is coordinating international efforts by sea and air to ensure the flow of humanitarian aid to Palestinian civilians, amid growing criticism of Israel’s role, which has been described as obstructing the delivery of vital supplies and exploiting the humanitarian situation as a political bargaining chip.
The new US move comes as the Biden administration attempts to quell international anger over the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Gaza, particularly following UN reports detailing the worsening food crisis and shortages of medicine and water.
Diplomatic sources indicated that Washington is seeking to form an international coalition to secure humanitarian corridors under its direct supervision. This would reduce Tel Aviv’s control over border crossings and aid distribution, a move that could pave the way for a shift in the balance of power regarding humanitarian aid in the region.
