Beirut, Lebanon – The World Health Organization announced on Sunday the death of an additional health worker in southern Lebanon, as a result of escalating Israeli military operations in the region.

Details of the attack and the death toll

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus,

explained in a post on the X platform that a paramedic was killed after an ambulance was targeted in the city of Bint Jbeil,

and a medical warehouse in the same city was also damaged as a result of the shelling.

Ghebreyesus noted that the WHO has verified the deaths of 51 health workers in Lebanon since March 2,

including nine paramedics killed on Saturday, emphasizing that the ongoing attacks on medical personnel

and facilities constitute a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law.

International reactions

The World Health Organization (WHO) called for an end to attacks on medical personnel and health facilities,

urging all parties to abide by international laws protecting medical workers and civilians,

in order to safeguard essential health services in conflict zones.

The WHO emphasized that the safety of medical personnel and facilities is vital to

ensuring the continued provision of medical care to civilians affected by military operations,

stressing that any attack on health workers exacerbates the suffering of the population and hinders humanitarian relief efforts.
