Madrid, Spain – Real Madrid are close to finalizing the appointment of their new manager. This comes after they reached a near-final agreement with Portuguese coach José Mourinho to take charge of the team in the coming period.
The Spanish newspaper AS reported that Real Madrid’s management has reached an agreement with Portuguese club Benfica regarding the transfer fee for Mourinho’s departure. This comes despite the expiration of the release clause in his contract, which was valued at €7 million.
The newspaper added that Real Madrid has finalized most of the financial details related to the Portuguese coach’s return to the Santiago Bernabéu. This removes the biggest obstacle to completing the deal.
Jorge Mendes, Mourinho’s agent, played a key role in bridging the gap between Real Madrid and Benfica. As a result, he helped expedite negotiations and reach a final agreement between the two parties.
The official announcement of Mourinho’s return is now linked to Real Madrid’s upcoming presidential elections, scheduled for June 7. The club is waiting for the presidential election to be decided before officially unveiling the new project under the Portuguese coach, should Florentino Pérez remain in his position.
Reports indicate that Benfica has lowered its previous financial demands, which has significantly advanced negotiations. As a result, Mourinho is now very close to returning to manage Real Madrid.
The Portuguese coach has already begun formulating his plans for next season, having discussed the team’s technical needs with the club’s management. He also provided a comprehensive assessment of the current squad.
Mourinho believes strengthening the defense is a top priority, particularly at center-back. He also emphasizes the need to reinforce both the right and left full-back positions. Furthermore, he aims to bolster the midfield with new players in preparation for the upcoming phase.
The newspaper confirmed that Mourinho is calmly handling the delay in the official announcement, given his complete confidence that the deal will be finalized. He also trusts that Real Madrid’s management is committed to his tactical plan and his vision for the transfer market.
