Wolverhampton Wanderers have been officially relegated to the English Championship. This came after West Ham United drew 0-0 with Crystal Palace in the Premier League.
West Ham increased their points tally with this draw, moving a full 16 points clear of Wolverhampton. This effectively ended Wolverhampton’s hopes of survival with several rounds remaining in the season.
Wolverhampton had temporarily avoided relegation in the previous round, after Tottenham drew with Brighton. However, the results of this round have officially sealed their fate.
The team’s season saw a significant decline, with management deciding last November to dismiss coach Vitor Pereira after a disappointing start, failing to secure a single victory in the first 10 matches. Rob Edwards took over as his replacement.
Despite achieving some notable results, most notably victories over Aston Villa and Liverpool, the team has been unable to avoid a string of poor results. The latest of these was a loss to Leeds United, marking their 22nd defeat of the season.
It is worth noting that Wolverhampton were promoted to the Premier League in 2018 under the leadership of Nuno Espirito Santo.
The team is scheduled to face Tottenham in the next round, in a match that will not affect its fate after its relegation was officially confirmed.
