Abu Dhabi, UAE – Bani Yas returned to winning ways with a crucial away victory against Al Nasr, winning 2-0 in their UAE Pro League match on Thursday evening.
Al Maktoum Stadium hosted the match between Al Nasr and Bani Yas, concluding the 14th round of the ADNOC Pro League. The match was of great importance to both teams, especially Bani Yas, who were striving to escape the relegation zone.
Bani Yas’s two goals were scored by Lionel Govou in the 45th minute and Youssoufou Nketiah in the 71st minute, giving their team a valuable victory that restored their confidence after a series of negative results.

Meanwhile, Al Nasr’s points total remained at 19, keeping them in sixth place in the league standings.
The match saw a strong start from Bani Yas, who applied early pressure on Al Nasr’s defense. They almost opened the scoring in the seventh minute after a glaring defensive error, which allowed Youssef Nketiah a clear run on goal. However, Al Nasr’s goalkeeper, Ahmed Shambih, made a brilliant save to deny him.
Bani Yas continued their dominance and were awarded a penalty in the 14th minute, but Nigerian Saviour Godwin missed it after the Al Nasr goalkeeper made the save, keeping the home side’s hopes of a comeback alive.
Before the end of the first half, Lionel Govou succeeded in breaking through Al Nasr’s defense, after he rose to meet a perfect cross and headed it powerfully into the net, giving Bani Yas a one-goal lead.
As the second half began, Al Nasr tried to equalize, threatening Bani Yas’s goal with several attempts. The most notable was Ramon Mirez’s chance in the opening minutes, but it didn’t result in a goal, thanks to the excellent performance of the defense and goalkeeper.
In the 60th minute, a defensive error between the Bani Yas goalkeeper and one of the defenders almost gave Al Nasr an equalizing goal, but the ball went safely to a corner kick.
Youssef Nketiah dashed Al Nasr’s hopes of a comeback, after adding Bani Yas’s second goal in the 71st minute. This came after a remarkable individual effort and a brilliant technical touch inside the penalty area, confirming his team’s superiority and securing the three points.
With this victory, Bani Yas sends a strong message in the relegation battle, while Al Nasr suffers a surprise defeat that halts its progress in the UAE league standings.
