Cairo, Egypt – The Egyptian national team, led by Hossam Hassan, achieved the third place title in the Al Ain International Championship, after defeating Cape Verde on penalties with a score of (2-0), after the original time ended in a draw (1-1).
Egypt met Cape Verde at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the third-place match of the Al Ain Cup.
Cape Verde took the lead with the first goal in the seventh minute from a penalty kick awarded by the referee against Mohamed Hany, which was successfully executed by Garry Rodrigues.
Egypt then tried to score an equalizer after dominating possession of the ball in the minutes following this goal, but they failed to do so, and the first half ended with Cape Verde leading by a single goal.
In the second half, the Pharaohs continued to pressure Cape Verde, and succeeded in scoring the equalizer in the 57th minute, through Omar Marmoush, after receiving a long pass which he controlled and penetrated into the penalty area and then shot a ball that settled in the net.
In the 66th minute, Omar Marmoush took a powerful shot that rebounded, then Osama Faisal followed up and put it in the net, but the referee disallowed the goal in the 66th minute.
The match remained a back-and-forth affair between the two teams without any new goals being scored, so the two teams resorted to penalty kicks, which were won by the Egyptian team.
