Tehran, Iran – NetBlocks, an organization specializing in monitoring internet traffic worldwide, confirmed that internet services in Iran have been disrupted for more than 84 consecutive hours. This marks one of the longest periods of widespread internet outages the country has experienced in recent times.
The organization explained that technical data indicates a sharp decline in network traffic within Iran. This reflects the continued restrictions imposed on fixed and mobile internet services, amidst the absence of any official announcement specifying when service will be fully restored.
This internet blackout comes amid escalating internal tensions. Authorities often resort to reducing or shutting down the internet during times of crisis in an attempt to limit the flow of information and restrict communication on social media platforms.
Human rights organizations warn that the continued internet shutdown directly impacts citizens’ lives, disrupting essential services and economic activity. This also restricts freedom of expression and access to information at a time when the Iranian public has a growing need to know what is happening around them.
