Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates – Researchers at New York University Abu Dhabi have developed a model of artificial intelligence.

The model can predict the speed of the solar wind four days before it blows, which represents a major advance compared to current methods.

The study was published in the journal “The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series.

The team of researchers at New York University Abu Dhabi, led by postdoctoral researcher Dataraj Dori and co-researcher at the university’s Center for Astrophysics and Space Sciences “CASS” Shravan Hanasugi, worked to train the artificial intelligence model using high-resolution ultraviolet images from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory – NASA and historical records of the solar wind.

The innovative model relies on analyzing images of the sun to determine the conditions associated with changes in the solar wind.

This is in contrast to current methods, including artificial intelligence systems that analyze texts.

This system resulted in a 45% improvement in the accuracy of solar wind forecasting compared to currently applied methods.

And at a rate of 20% compared to traditional artificial intelligence models.

This method represents a major step forward in protecting satellites, navigation systems and the energy infrastructure on which modern life depends, said Dataraj, lead author of the study.

He pointed out that by combining advanced artificial intelligence with our monitoring of developments in solar conditions, we can provide early warnings that help protect vital systems on Earth and in space as well.

It is noteworthy that New York University Abu Dhabi established more than 90 laboratories and projects for professors, which together produced more than 9,200 academic research papers, articles, and international books.
