Cairo, Egypt – Amnesty International has asserted that Israel’s ongoing military escalation against the Gaza Strip, which it described as “brutal,” has opened a new chapter in a humanitarian catastrophe. It has triggered an unprecedented wave of mass displacement under intense bombardment.
The organization explained that tens of thousands of families were forced to flee the northern Gaza Strip and Gaza City to the south. However, the displacement sites themselves suffer from horrific conditions. They lack water, food, and medical services. In addition, there is an absence of basic infrastructure for sustainable life.
The report added that hundreds of thousands of civilians are trapped between two bitter choices. They must either remain under intense bombardment or be displaced to overcrowded areas. These areas lack even the most basic necessities of life.
Amnesty International stressed that the international community must halt this aggression immediately. Safe corridors must also be opened for the entry of humanitarian aid. They emphasized that continuing this Israeli policy means entering a new phase of mass forced cleansing.
