Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Entissar al-Sisi, received Chinese President Xi Jinping and his wife at the Presidential Palace in Cairo today. This visit is part of a historic official trip coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1956. The welcoming ceremony included a horse parade, a 21-gun salute, and the playing of the national anthems of both countries. The two leaders then posed for commemorative photographs. Following this, they held an expanded meeting with their respective delegations. An agreement and several memoranda of understanding were subsequently signed, and a luncheon was held in honor of the Chinese guests.

In his remarks during the talks, President El-Sisi praised the comprehensive strategic partnership established between the two countries in 2014. He also announced an agreement to launch the third phase of the expansion of the Egyptian-Chinese industrial zone within the Suez Canal Economic Zone. This phase aims to enhance cooperation in the fields of renewable energy, automobiles, and textiles. The discussions also addressed developments in the Middle East. President El-Sisi emphasized the priority of de-escalation and prioritizing diplomatic solutions. He also stressed the need to guarantee freedom of navigation and respect the security and safety of the Gulf states and Jordan.

The Palestinian issue was also discussed, along with efforts to implement the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and facilitate the delivery of aid. China commended Egypt’s role in establishing regional stability. The President also emphasized the vital importance of the Nile River and Egypt’s legitimate right to protect its water and food security in accordance with international law. For his part, the Chinese President affirmed his country’s commitment to implementing the strategic partnership agreements. He also encouraged Chinese companies to increase their investments in Egypt. Furthermore, he stressed the importance of joint coordination in international forums to defend the interests of developing countries and promote international peace and security.
