According to the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth, the Chief of Staff personally informed Netanyahu during a previous meeting. This was reiterated at an official meeting held last Monday with Defense Minister Yisrael Katz and senior military commanders. The Chief of Staff also informed Netanyahu that the West Bank was nearing a point of no return due to what he termed “nationalist crimes” committed by settlers. The same sources reported that the commander of the Central Command, Avi Blot, expressed grave concern during the meeting. He warned that the already volatile situation in the region was on the verge of exploding at the slightest provocation. Discussions focused on the paradox on the ground: a decline in the frequency of Palestinian attacks in the West Bank, contrasted by a marked increase in settler attacks and provocations against Palestinian residents and their property.

The newspaper noted that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed his displeasure and impatience with these security warnings, deeming them detrimental to his ongoing election campaign. Netanyahu attempted to steer the discussion toward scenarios of a potential full-scale confrontation with the Palestinians and the Palestinian Authority. He demanded a presentation of operational plans for dealing with this threat, with the Chief of Staff confirming the army’s readiness for such scenarios. Following the meeting, Netanyahu’s media team launched a campaign to downplay the military leaders’ warnings.
