Ankara, Turkey – Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan received a high-level delegation from Hamas today to discuss the latest developments concerning the humanitarian and political situation in the Gaza Strip. The two sides also discussed ways to support regional and international efforts to alleviate human suffering and promote stability in the region.
A statement issued by the Turkish Presidency indicated that the meeting addressed urgent humanitarian issues, including providing basic necessities for the civilian population. The two sides also discussed support for development projects and infrastructure damaged by the conflict. In addition, they discussed mechanisms for consolidating the ceasefire and preventing any new military escalation.
Erdogan emphasized Turkey’s role as a neutral and effective mediator in the region, stressing the importance of coordination with key international actors to ensure the protection of civilians and enhance the prospects for a peaceful political settlement. This contributes to alleviating the suffering of the population and mitigating the severity of the humanitarian crises.
The delegation also discussed with the Turkish President ways to strengthen Palestinian internal dialogue and bolster joint diplomatic efforts. The discussion focused on the importance of expanding international and regional support for the Gaza Strip to ensure the delivery of vital humanitarian aid and improve the living conditions of the population.
