Beijing, China – China has entered the fray of the escalating crisis in the Middle East with its full diplomatic weight, issuing an urgent appeal to the international community and the warring parties for an immediate cessation of hostilities.

The Chinese call comes in the wake of unprecedentedly escalatory statements by US President Donald Trump. Trump has threatened to launch devastating and comprehensive military strikes against Tehran within the next few weeks. As a result, the region and the world face the specter of a full-scale war that could redraw the map of global energy and security.

Beijing: Military means are a “dead end”

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized during a press conference on Thursday that “military means cannot fundamentally resolve problems.”

Ning stressed that the current military escalation is not in the interest of either side. She also warned that the continued use of threatening rhetoric will have disastrous consequences. These consequences will extend beyond Iran’s borders, impacting economic and political stability across Asia and the world.

Warning against “sliding into the unknown”

The Chinese Foreign Ministry urged “the relevant parties”—in a clear reference to Washington and Tehran—to immediately cease military operations and return to the negotiating table.

Observers believe the Chinese stance reflects Beijing’s deep concern over Trump’s threats to end the war “within two weeks” through overwhelming firepower. China believes this is a gamble that could plunge the region into uncontrollable chaos. This concern is heightened by the potential disruption to energy supply chains, on which Chinese factories are vitally dependent.

Diplomacy of appeasement in the face of “epic anger”

These Chinese moves come as the US-Israeli “Operation Epic Wrath” continues to achieve its strategic objectives inside Iran.

While the White House is banking on a swift military victory, Beijing is attempting to revive “quiet diplomacy” and prevent the collapse of the Iranian state. China believes that any escalation of the conflict would mean a permanent disruption of oil supplies through the Strait of Hormuz. Beijing describes this scenario as a “suicidal option” for the global economy.
