Cairo, Egypt – In an official statement reflecting growing regional concern, the Egyptian House of Representatives and Senate condemned the attacks attributed to Iran against Gulf Arab states and Jordan. Both houses considered these attacks a clear violation of state sovereignty and a direct threat to regional stability.

A firm stance at a sensitive regional time

The joint statement came amid rapidly evolving developments in the region. The two councils warned of the dangers of the current escalation, emphasizing that these events cannot be separated from a broader context that affects Arab security as a whole. The statement affirmed that Egypt stands fully with the affected countries, based on historical relations and deep-rooted strategic partnerships. It also stressed that Egyptian solidarity is not merely symbolic but reflects a genuine commitment to the region’s security.

Gulf security is part of Egyptian national security.

The two councils stressed that the security of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states and Jordan is directly linked to Egyptian national security. They affirmed that any threat to these countries constitutes an attack on Egypt’s vital interests, necessitating a unified Arab stance to confront the challenges. The statement indicated that Cairo has adopted a proactive approach at the political and diplomatic levels, in coordination with the leadership of the GCC states and Jordan. The aim was to contain the escalation and strengthen Arab unity. It also affirmed that the directives of the political leadership to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reflect a keen understanding of the gravity of the situation and a commitment to supporting brotherly nations in facing security challenges. The two councils warned that continued tension in the Gulf region, particularly in vital maritime chokepoints such as the Strait of Hormuz, could lead to significant economic repercussions. These repercussions include disruption to global trade, increased energy prices, and pressure on food supply chains.

Confronting rumors and media challenges

On another front, the statement called for countering what it described as attempts to undermine Egyptian-Arab relations through social media platforms. It stressed the importance of dealing firmly with these campaigns and exposing their falsehoods. The two councils affirmed the necessity of developing a regional framework that strengthens the concept of collective Arab security through practical mechanisms capable of protecting state sovereignty and countering any attempts to impose influence by force.

Political solutions are a strategic option

Despite its condemnatory tone, the statement emphasized Egypt’s commitment to political and diplomatic solutions as the primary option for avoiding further escalation. It also stressed that military options could lead to disastrous consequences for regional stability. The statement concluded by affirming that Egypt will continue to play its role as a cornerstone of regional security and stability, and reiterated its commitment to defending the sovereignty of Arab states and rejecting any attempts to impose a new reality by force.
