Ankara, Turkey – Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that there are indications that Israel intends to launch an attack on Iran. He warned that such a move could further destabilize the Middle East. In a televised interview on Friday, February 22, Fidan said that potential Israeli plans to attack Iran would make the region “even more unstable.” He also emphasized the danger of escalation given the current regional situation. When asked whether he believed that Israel, rather than the United States, was the party seeking to attack Iran, the Turkish Foreign Minister replied, “Yes.”
In the same vein, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and several senior government officials, including the foreign minister, described the recent unrest in Iran as a “scripted scenario.” They considered it an external operation aimed at pushing the region toward “chaos.” Erdoğan had previously stated that, following the twelve-day war with Israel, Iran faced a new challenge targeting the country’s peace and stability. He expressed confidence in Tehran’s ability to overcome this phase. Erdoğan said, “We believe that our Iranian brothers will overcome these circumstances and transcend this scenario with a wise policy that prioritizes dialogue and diplomacy.” For his part, the Turkish foreign minister affirmed that US President Donald Trump, if he so desired, possessed the ability to exert pressure on Israel. Consequently, he could halt what he termed its “erroneous behavior.”
