Mogadishu, Somalia – Somali Information Minister Daoud Aweys Jama affirmed his country’s categorical rejection of any Israeli move towards recognizing what is called “Somaliland”.
Jameh described this move as a blatant violation of state sovereignty
and a direct attack on its territorial integrity;
This is completely contrary to international laws and legitimacy,
and it puts obstacles in the way of Mogadishu’s efforts to
consolidate state institutions and strengthen national security.
A sensitive timing aimed at political gains
In the same context, the Minister of Information explained in an interview
with the “Cairo News” channel that this alleged admission comes at a very delicate time;
It aims to undermine the tangible political progress that Somalia
has recently made on the regional and African stages.
Accordingly, the Somali government views such moves as a blow to stabilization efforts.
Especially since Somalia is seeking to restore its active role
in supporting collective security within the African continent.
The unity of Somalia is a red line
Furthermore, Jama stressed that Somalia’s sovereignty and national
unity are “non-negotiable and indivisible” under any pretext whatsoever.
Since the government strongly rejects the imposition of new political realities on the ground,
minister affirmed that Somalia will continue to defend its legitimate rights by all diplomatic means;
This is to ensure that there is no interference in its internal affairs
or infringement upon the integrity of its internationally recognized borders.
Risks of regional instability
On the other hand, the Somali official warned that the Israeli move would not only have an impact on Somalia itself.
Rather, it will lead to increased tension and instability in the entire Horn of Africa region.
Given that the region already suffers from complex security challenges,
encouraging separatist tendencies will open the door to a new wave of unrest;
This requires a firm international stance that respects the sovereignty
of states and prevents the escalation of regional crises.
Summary of Mogadishu’s diplomatic efforts
Jama stressed that Somalia will continue to coordinate with its international
and regional partners to explain the seriousness of this trend and its disastrous consequences.
Therefore, the hope remains that the international community will recognize
the need to maintain stability in the African continent.
This is what Mogadishu is trying to achieve through its diplomatic channels.
This will ensure the protection of the gains of the Somali people
and prevent any attempts to divide their country.
