Cairo, Egypt – Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty held a telephone conversation today with his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araqchi. During the call, the two sides discussed ways to advance bilateral relations and addressed pressing regional issues of mutual interest.
Strengthening bilateral cooperation
The Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that the call included a review of the trajectory of relations between Cairo and Tehran. Both ministers commended the pace of meetings and intensive communications that have taken place between the two sides recently. They affirmed their commitment to continued coordination and consultation on bilateral issues, in a manner that serves the interests of both countries and supports regional stability.
The nuclear issue and de-escalation
The two ministers discussed at length the developments in the Iranian nuclear file, with Minister Abdel-Aati stressing Egypt’s position calling for the importance of de-escalation and building trust between the concerned international parties.
Abdel-Aati stressed the need to create the appropriate conditions that would allow for a genuine opportunity for diplomatic solutions. He also emphasized Egypt’s support for resuming dialogue with the aim of reaching a comprehensive agreement. This agreement must take into account the interests of all parties and ensure the preservation of regional security and stability, moving away from an atmosphere of tension.
