Ankara, Turkey – Turkish authorities announced Wednesday that the black box of the plane that crashed Tuesday night near the capital, Ankara, has been recovered. The crash killed the chief of staff of the Libyan army loyal to the internationally recognized government, who was returning from an official visit to Türkiye.
Initial investigations revealed that the aircraft reported an electrical fault before the crash. This suggests the possibility of a sudden technical malfunction that led to the air disaster.
Several high-ranking Libyan officers were on board the aircraft. All passengers perished in the crash. Turkish and Libyan investigation teams have begun examining the black box data to determine the precise cause of the accident. The investigation teams will also aim to provide recommendations to enhance the safety of future official flights.
The Turkish Defense Ministry spokesperson stated that “retrieving the black box is a crucial step in unraveling the mystery of the incident and understanding all the circumstances.” He added that the initial investigation results may be announced in the coming days, after a thorough examination of the box’s contents.
The incident has sparked grief and shock in Libya. Authorities have expressed their condolences to the victims’ families. Military and political circles are closely monitoring developments, given the importance of the military leaders who were on board. These leaders play key roles in the Libyan army’s structure and national security administration.
