Bangkok, Thailand – Thai Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketko accused Cambodia of violating the ceasefire agreement signed between the two countries last July. He warned that continued violations threaten stability along the border and exacerbate the suffering of civilians.
The minister noted several violations by Cambodian forces, including the firing of rockets and artillery into Thai territory. He asserted that the agreement lacked sufficient guarantees, making its continuation uncertain. He added, “The ball is now in Phnom Penh’s court; it must take urgent steps to restore trust and achieve a genuine ceasefire.”
Cambodia rejected the accusations, asserting that its forces were adhering to the ceasefire. Meanwhile, renewed clashes erupted in border areas, resulting in deaths and injuries. Dozens of civilians were also displaced.
Experts warn that continued tensions between Thailand and Cambodia could exacerbate the humanitarian crisis and pose a threat to regional stability. They have called for international intervention to de-escalate the situation and prevent further escalation.
